Mass Effect completes me

posted by shawn // Dec 03 2007

Mass Effect is my favorite game of the year. Better than Super Mario Galaxy, and that was a damn fine game. As others have pointed out, Mass Effect is by no means perfect. The frame rate drops during heavy action, and at times I’ve seen an APC or two running into boxes, threatening to kill them, like inebriated bums in a galaxy far, far away. Mass Effect does remind one of Star Wars. The developers got their feet wet with that franchise. Mass Effect, however, is a more compelling and intricate tale than any Star Wars lore of recent memory.

Are we ready for digital books?

posted by shawn // Dec 03 2007

I don’t think I am. However, my bookshelves are teeming with books, and they don’t expand to meet the needs of my reading habits. Amazon’s Kindle targets those of us looking to cut down on clutter and simplify our reading habits. One device to teach them all. The problem is, staring at a computer for hours on end during the daily grind does not give me even the slightest impetus to continue staring intently at a screen for hours at night. Books, comics and graphic novels give my eyes much needed rest from the glare of my LCD’s. I suppose there will come a time when digital paper evolves, and the burden on our retinas is eased with a digital replica of the splendor of the printed page. For the time being, there is much to improve upon.

About

Bah weep graaagnah wheep ni ni bong. NerdVernacular is a rest stop on the information superhighway for the bespectacled, pocket-protecting masses to chuckle amongst ourselves about the significance of 42, the victor of a battle between the Death Star and Unicron, why (up - up - down - down - left - right - left - right - B - A - start) should solve global warming, and why 20 rupees is a bit too much to repair a door.
